Environmental Educator 2

This position serves as the manager of the Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center at Thacher/Thompson's Lake State Parks. The incumbent reports to the Park Manager at Thacher State Park and serves as a key member of the Thacher/Thompson's Lake State Parks team. Primary responsibilities include:
o Manages operation of Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center including budgeting and administration; staffing; programming. o Maintains quality public service for visitors to the center including welcome, orientation, well-maintained exhibit and activity areas, and tidy facilities. o Plans and administers the delivery of environmental programs at the Nature Center, the Thacher Visitor Center, and other facilities in the park in collaboration with park partners like Wildplay, Friends Group, Climbing Coalition, etc. o Supervises, designs, and plans environmental education programs for schools, teachers, special groups, and the public by assessing needs, developing plans and educational goals, overseeing and evaluation programs, requesting and allocating resources for program implementation, and engaging alternate sources of funding. o Manages both NYS allocations and disbursements from the Natural Heritage Trust to efficiently deliver orientation, education and exhibit upgrades as needed. o Manages digital and print media to advance public outreach. o Supervises and evaluates program staff at Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center, Thacher State Park, and Thompson's Lake Campground. Oversees the recruitment, training, and supervision of SCA interns and volunteers. o Evaluates current programs, teaching and publicity materials, exhibits, and collections, determines needs for revisions and modification, and supervises the implementation of new and revised programs and materials. o Develops, manages and implements interpretive signs and exhibits for Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center, Thacher State Park and the Thompson's Lake Campground. o As part of park management team, contributes to the production of large events at Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center, Thacher State Park and Thompson's Lake Campground including but not limited to Hawk Watch, First Day Hike and I Love My Park Day. o Works with Natural Resources Stewardship team to contribute to the public education of NRS issues and management in the park, including the incorporation of NRS projects in volunteer recruitment and educational programming.

Salary Range:
From $60069 to $76387 Annually
Minimum Qualification
For Provisional Appointment:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Environmental Educator 1, G-14; OR 1. four years of experience in environmental conservation in a professional/technical capacity or professional teaching of environmental education OR 2. two years of the experience described above AND 60 college semester credit hours, including at least 24 college semester credit hours in biology (for the purpose of these examinations, courses that focus on the study of domesticated or farm animals or humans are not qualifying), earth science, ecology, environmental education, environmental science, field natural history, forestry, geology, marine science, natural resources interpretation, or soil science. You MUST submit a list of qualifying courses with your application, including course title, number of semester credits per course, name of college or university, and the date of completion. OR 3. a bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, environmental education, environmental science, forestry, or natural resources interpretation. Candidates must also have two years of additional experience in environmental education. Environmental education is defined as teaching about or interpreting the natural world, the principles of ecology, natural resources management, and environmental quality management. It deals with the interrelationships of plants, animals, and the non-living environment and emphasizes human interactions with these components. Examples of Acceptable
Experience:
Experience as a naturalist at a nature setting; an instructor in an environmental education program; or as a designer of environmental education programs for youth organizations such as scouting groups, 4 H clubs, YMCA, etc. Examples of Non-qualifying
Experience:
Experience as a teacher of courses such as chemistry, physics, and biology; as a youth leader who carries out pre-established programs; or as a leader of outings for a conservation organization, etc. Provisional employees must take and pass the next Civil Service Examination for Environmental Educator 2, G-18, and be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for permanent appointment.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
